Description of default Muse Kiosks

The Site Wizard is a Muse application that enables point and click creation of custom Muse environments. Creating a new Muse Site can be accomplished by selecting and configuring a  3D template.

The Site Wizard also provides a one-click publish feature that allows you to host your Muse site and share it with other users.

Sites created with the Site Wizard can be shared, enabling other users to connect. Muse supports full shared interactivity, which means that your visitors will be able to see and interact with the environment and its media in real-time.

The Site Wizard makes use of two components to enable point and click editing: templates and kiosks.

Templates are Muse sites that have been designed to work with the Site Wizard. Templates constitute the main scene. Choosing a template defines the basic look and feel of the site.

Kiosks are objects that can be inserted into the template by the user. There are kiosks available that support video, web, and audio media types. By selecting and configuring kiosks, you can define the media that will be displayed in your Muse site.

Together with the Site Wizard, templates and kiosks are the building blocks of point-and-click Muse site creation.

Launching the Site Wizard:

Click on the Muse Site Wizard "QuickLaunch" icon to begin.
(please see the Muse User Guide for more information about launching the Site Wizard).

Once the Site Wizard is running, you can create a site in just a few steps:

Building a Muse Site in 7 steps :

Step 1 - Create/Load Site

In the first stage you have the option of creating a new site or loading a previously created site.

- Click "create new site" and press "NEXT"

Step 2 - Choose A Template

This screen allows you to select a template to use as the basis for your new site.

- Select the template named "Binkie" and then click "NEXT"

Step 3 - Load Template Site

During this stage the template you have selected is loaded and prepared for configuration.

- Click "NEXT" after the site is loaded

Step 4 - Place and Configure Kiosks

This is where most of the site configuration takes place. In the scene you will see a number of attach points. Clicking on an attach point brings up the Kiosk configuration menu.

You can repeat this step for any attach point in the scene.

Select Attach Point:

After selecting a Kiosk attach point, the Kiosk Configuration sub-menu appears:

Configuring Media Kiosks:
You can repeat this step for any attach point in the scene.

i)SELECT KIOSK TYPE
(for example "Web Kiosk") and click"NEXT".

Please refer the kiosk list for more information about Kiosk types.

ii) ADD URL
Now enter the URL's of media you would like to display. (for example www.google.com)

Type in a valid local or live URL, and click the ADD button.

If you are using a video or audio kiosk, you can drag and drop files from your desktop onto the kiosk configuration menu.

iii)CLOSE KIOSK MENU

Once Kiosk editing is complete, move on to save your site:

iv) Exit Configuration Stage
Click "NEXT" to finalize your Muse site.

Step 5 - Enter Site Information

If you decide to Share your Muse Site, the information entered on this screen will assist other users in finding and learning about your site.

- Fill out the information fields for your site. At least the "title" field must be entered.

- click "NEXT" to continue

Step 6 - Save and Publish

The newly edited Muse site may be saved and published during the final stage of the Site Wizard creation process.

- enter a file name for your site in the field provided

- make sure that both the "Publish.." and "Go Online.." options are selected

- click "FINISH"

After the final stage, the Site Wizard will exit. As you have selected the "Publish and go Online" options, the site will be shared automatically and you will be automatically connected.

Your Muse site is now live!

Any media loaded in a shared site will be visible to other users when they connect.

Protected Kiosks:
When adding a kiosk, you have the option of selecting "protected" mode. If a kiosk is flagged as "protected", it will only be modifiable via the Site Wizard. This mode is useful for creating a Muse Site that you do *not* want to be changed by visitors.

Optimization Notes:
Muse does not put any limit on the number or size of media sources you embed into site, therefore it is important to take care not to overload a site to the point where visiting users have to undergo excessive download times. When hosting content from your personal computer (adding c:/.. urls) remember to be mindful of your upstream bandwidth. While you CAN serve up multiple 100 megabyte videos over your modem, the user experience will suffer.

Download/install new kiosks and templates:
The Muse Site Wizard supports drop-in templates and kiosks. Users can download new content to use with the Site Wizard from http://www.musetribes.com

Share sites with other users:
At the last stage (Step 7) of the site creation process, users are given the option of "publishing and going online". To host a Muse site without the Site Wizard, use the "Online Status" button ( TaskBar->Online Status Icon ). Please see the Muse User Guide for more information.

These kiosks are installed by default with the Site Wizard, and are available to all users of Muse.
